National Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15-October 15

Celebrate the culture, history, and contributions of Hispanic Americans during National Hispanic Heritage Month. Starting in 1968, Hispanic heritage was first commemorated on a national scale as a weekly celebration. The celebration expanded to a month-long event with federal legislation (Public Law 100-402) on August 17, 1988. The month covers multiple significant dates for Latin American history: September 15 marking the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, September 16 for Mexico, and September 18 for Chile.
